The Stars Aligned...
My passion for movement started at age 3 and has continued ever since. Since at least kindergarten, I have been exclaiming that I would become a dancer and a teacher "when I grow up". Everyday I find myself more thankful to be realizing that dream and teaching students from all over the DFW metroplex.
I spent my youth dancing in Rockwall, TX. From shaking my tail feathers to sparking my passions for jazz & for choreography, my time in the studios that shaped me was precious. I remember the love my dance teachers extended to me, and the ways I learned to push through discomfort & find excellence. I have carried that with me for over 20 years, and as I've become a teacher, I have hoped to inspire my students as much as my own teachers inspired me in childhood.
In high school, I made a slight turn towards drill team where I furthered my curiosity & passion for choreography and for teaching. During my time on drill team I choreographed several solos, duets, and ensemble pieces for myself and for the team before I graduated in 2016.
I earned my associates degree from Collin College where I was a member of the Collin Dance Ensemble for 3 years. At Collin, I gained a new love for contemporary and modern dance and began using most of my free time to dance & create. In 2018, my choreography was selected for adjudication at ACDA.
My collegiate journey then continued (during the infamous covid-19 pandemic) at Texas Women's University where I earned my B.G.S with concentrations in Health Studies, Sociology, and English.
In 2018, while still in college, I began my official journey as a dance teacher. I have taught at several studios across the metroplex and worked with hundreds of students age 2 to adult. I have taught at recreational and competitive levels in every style (and I really do mean every style: ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary/lyrical, modern, hip hop, leaps & turns, acro, creative movement...). I have choreographed dozens of competitive routines and earned several choreographic awards (and my dancers have brought home some pretty impressive placements too ;))
I am CPR & First Aid certified teacher, as well as an Acrobatic Arts Module 1 certified instructor, and am in training to become an RYT200. I have also taught under the Darby’s Dancers program, which is focused on making dance accessible for those with physical and intellectual disabilities.
In 2020, I founded North Star Dance Project. This professional company is a collaborative space and encourages all of its members to present choreography and push the boundaries of their own artistry. We are the landing place for dancers who hold careers outside of performance. North Star has produced dozens of digital and live performances since its start, and has been invited to festivals and events around the metroplex and beyond to perform work from a variety of its company members. North Star Dance Project was the original light in the sky for me, but I knew long before it began that owning a studio was my ultimate goal. When it came time to buckle down, I really did feel the stars align, and it only made sense to continue honoring the mission I have been on for years: lighting the way to a world where dance is accessible, approachable, and enjoyable. To be able to move is a gift, and to connect with dancers is even more precious.
I can't wait to discover new constellations.
